Day 1 - 48 hours

The longest day on our record! We have been awake for about 42 hours minus a few minutes!
So many stories. Anna-Lee had to open her luggage at El Al Security. We all had lots of quesitons asked. And Granny was "selected." That meant she got the full security deal.

Linda's thoughts.
We saw lots of history, lots of stories, lots of Scripture, lots of information..
BUT
what hit me the most was not Israel past, but Israel now.
It is a different world here.
First, while we were touring and gleaning incredible information from our guide through the Bible garden, we heard shooting. Loud and close. There is a base right down in the valley from where we were. This is one place where the Israeli military practice being snipers, and shooting very loud sounding rocket kind of sounds.
On and on it went ... and on and on and on.
Second, while in Casearea on the coast of the Mediterranean Sea, military helicopters kept circling - surveillance.
We also saw many people in military uniforms  - women of course too.
A Palistinean village a km away. And much emotion from guides we had on this whole situation.

But don't worry, we are safe!

From Anna-Lee
Hello,
I am immensely enjoying the trip to Israel and am looking forward to learning more!! Today as you may have heard we went to a Bible garden. It was really neat how all of the plants, trees, shrubs and bushes were all in the bible. I also learned what type of tree they used to make Jesus`s crown of thorns! Also we herded goats and sheep and we ground hyssop leaves to make a really good dip for pita bread! I felt like I was doing something Jesus would have done when He was a little boy!!
I found things out that you would never think of otherwise!

We also went to Caeserea the city that King Herod the Great made. There we watched a movie about how after Herod died lots of different religions ruled it. It was very interesting. We walked around for quite a while just looking, the Mediterranean Sea was amazing! The waves where HUGE! I loved the smell of the salt and the water mixed together. It was very calming even though the water was not calm.
Tomorrow we are going to the Independence Hall museum!! I am looking forward to learning about Israel`s happy day. It is amazing how a day can be so happy then so suddenly it can change to terrible!! Just like that day that Israel became a country!!!!!
Please pray for rain because we are in need of rain.
Best regards,
Anna-Lee

Amphitheater in Caesarea. Caesarea is still in active archaeology sight, they were working when we were there.

Herod the Great's hand made harbor. We studied some of Herod's architecture in Sunday School and the rest at home.

Goodnight from the Mediterranean Sea.
